Turbellaria is a traditional subdivision of the flatworm phylum Platyhelminthes, covering the roughly 4500 non parasitic species, as distinct from the exclusively parasitic flatworm groups. Turbellarians range from about 1 millimeter to more than 500 millimeters long, lack respiratory and circulatory systems and so rely on diffusion, are mostly predatory, and nearly all reproduce sexually as simultaneous hermaphrodites; molecular studies have since shown Turbellaria is not a single natural lineage, so it survives mainly as a traditional, informal grouping.
