Ustilaginomycetes is a class of true smut fungi within division Basidiomycota. Its members are plant parasites, with about 1,400 recognized species distributed across roughly 70 genera, grouped into two orders, Urocystidales and Ustilaginales. The class is monophyletic, sharing a common ancestor, and its members are distinguished from Agaricomycotina by a simple septum with a septal pore cap rather than a dolipore septum with a parenthesome.
