The conifers: cone-bearing seed plants with needle-like or scale-like leaves, most of them evergreen. Pinophyta includes pines, spruces, firs, cedars and redwoods, and dominates the boreal forest biome across the Northern Hemisphere as well as many temperate mountain ranges.
