Acrochordidae is a family of snakes containing a single genus, Acrochordus, with three recognized species, commonly called wart snakes or file snakes. They are entirely aquatic, found in rivers, streams and estuaries across Australia and tropical Asia, from western India and Sri Lanka through Southeast Asia to the Philippines, Indonesia, New Guinea and northern Australia. Their skin is loose and baggy with small, non overlapping scales bearing tiny pyramidal projections, and their eyes sit on top of the head rather than at the sides. They are ambush predators that grip slippery fish using the rough texture of their scales, and adults range from about 60 to 243 centimeters in length.
