Anguidae

Anguidae is a large, diverse family of lizards native to the Northern Hemisphere, comprising nine genera and 89 living species in two subfamilies, the largely legless Anguinae, including the slow worms and glass lizards, and the fully limbed Gerrhonotinae, the alligator lizards of North and Central America. Members carry hard osteoderms beneath their scales, range from about 10 centimeters to 1.5 meters long, and the family's fossil record reaches back roughly 75 million years to the Campanian.
