Bolyeriidae

Bolyeriidae is a small family of snakes native to Mauritius and its outlying islets, historically classified within Boidae before being recognized as its own family. It contains two monotypic genera, Bolyeria and Casarea, though only Casarea survives; Bolyeria, the Round Island burrowing boa, has not been seen since 1975 and is believed extinct. The surviving species, the Round Island ground boa, is now found only on Round Island after being wiped out on mainland Mauritius by habitat loss and introduced pigs. Also called splitjaw snakes, the family's closest living relative is the Asian genus Xenophidion.
