Brentidae

Brentidae is a cosmopolitan family of beetles in the order Coleoptera, mostly wood-feeding, commonly known as straight-snouted weevils and sometimes called primitive weevils, though that name is also used for other families such as Belidae. The family has been expanded to include the subfamilies Apioninae, Cyladinae and Nanophyinae, formerly placed in Curculionidae, along with Ithycerinae, once considered a separate family, and it now comprises about 4,000 known species. Brentidae are most diverse in the tropics but occur throughout temperate regions as well, and unlike many other weevils they have non-elbowed antennae, with bodies that tend to be elongate and flattened, though with numerous exceptions.
