Byrrhidae

Byrrhidae, commonly known as pill beetles, is a family of beetles in the order Coleoptera and superfamily Byrrhoidea, generally found in damp habitats of cooler, high-latitude regions in both hemispheres. Most byrrhids feed on moss, lichens and algae, though some species instead feed on vascular plants; the family comprises around 500 extant species in 40 genera, and its oldest undoubted fossil record is the genus Lidryops from earliest Late Cretaceous amber in France, with less certain, possibly related records reaching back to the Middle Jurassic.
