Carettochelyidae is a family of cryptodiran turtles within the softshell turtle group Trionychia, today represented by a single living species, the pig-nosed turtle, Carettochelys insculpta, native to New Guinea and northern Australia. The family was far more diverse and widespread during the Cenozoic era, with fossil genera known from North America, Europe, Asia and Africa, and stem-group members recorded from the Cretaceous period in Asia; the pig-nosed turtle is the only surviving representative of this once broad lineage.
