Cavognathidae is a family of beetles in the superfamily Cucujoidea containing a single genus, Taphropiestes, with about a dozen described species in South America, Australia, and New Zealand. In Australia and New Zealand both adults and larvae have been found in bird nests, though their ecological role there, possibly as scavengers, remains unclear.
