Cordylidae

Cordylidae, known as girdled, spinytail or girdle-tail lizards, is a family of small to medium lizards native to southern and eastern Africa, comprising ten genera closely related to the plated lizards of Gerrhosauridae, together forming the clade Cordyliformes. Cordylids are diurnal, insectivorous and typically shelter in rocky crevices, with flattened heads and bodies armored by osteoderms and large rectangular scales. Most have four limbs, though the genus Chamaesaura is nearly limbless, and both egg-laying and ovoviviparous species occur.
