Dermochelyidae is a family of sea turtles within the order Testudines and superfamily Chelonioidea, with seven extinct genera and one extant genus containing a single living species, the leatherback sea turtle, Dermochelys coriacea. The oldest fossils of the group date to the Late Cretaceous, and the leatherback today is found in ocean environments worldwide as the sole surviving member of this ancient lineage.
