Eublepharidae

Eublepharidae, known as the eyelid geckos, is a family of geckos comprising six genera and forty three described species found across Asia, Africa, North America and Central America. Unlike most geckos, eublepharids lack adhesive toepads and possess movable eyelids. The family includes the leopard geckos (Eublepharis), banded geckos (Coleonyx), ground and cave geckos (Goniurosaurus), fat-tailed geckos (Hemitheconyx), clawed geckos (Holodactylus) and the monotypic cat gecko (Aeluroscalabotes). Like other geckos, eublepharids can shed their tails, and the severed tail continues to twitch for roughly thirty minutes, a distraction that helps the animal escape a predator.
