Gerrhosauridae, the plated lizards, is a family native to Africa and Madagascar, closely related to skinks and once classified alongside them, comprising seven genera in two subfamilies, Gerrhosaurinae and Zonosaurinae, and roughly 38 species in total. Body form varies across the family, with some species having four fully developed limbs and others only vestigial hind limbs, and most are believed to lay eggs.
