Haliplidae is a family of water beetles in the order Coleoptera, commonly known as crawling water beetles, that swim with an alternating motion of the legs and are clumsier swimmers than the related Dytiscidae or Hydrophilidae, generally preferring to crawl. The family comprises about 200 species in five genera, found wherever freshwater habitat exists.
