Monotomidae, the root eating beetles, is a family of beetles in the superfamily Cucujoidea found worldwide, with about 240 described species across 33 genera. They live under tree bark, in decaying vegetation, on flowers, and in ant nests, and while many feed on fungal fruiting bodies, beetles of the genus Rhizophagus prey on bark beetles and their larvae. The family fossil record extends back to the Middle Jurassic.
