Noteridae

Noteridae is a family of water beetles in the order Coleoptera, closely related to and formerly classified with the diving beetle family Dytiscidae, and sometimes called burrowing water beetles. They are distinguished mainly by a distinctive noterid platform, a plate on the underside between the second and third pairs of legs, and are found worldwide, more commonly in the tropics. These beetles are relatively small, from 1 to 6 millimeters, with smooth oval bodies in light to reddish brown; both adults and larvae are aquatic and typically found around plants, burrowing through pond and marsh substrate as primarily carnivorous animals, with some scavenging observed.
