Ptinidae is a family of beetles in the order Coleoptera and the superfamily Bostrichoidea, established by Latreille in 1802. The family contains at least 220 genera and about 2,200 described species worldwide, including spider beetles, the deathwatch beetle, and economically significant pests such as the cigarette, drugstore and furniture beetles. Ptinidae species are difficult to identify because of their small size and compact body structure, and recent classification treats the former family Anobiidae as a subfamily, Anobiinae, within Ptinidae.
