Sphaerodactylidae is a family of geckos comprising twelve living genera and more than 200 species, distributed across North, Central and South America and the Caribbean as well as southern Europe, North Africa, the Middle East and into Central Asia. The family name refers to the ball-shaped joints of its members finger bones. Known by common names including croaking geckos, dwarf geckos, rock geckos and wonder geckos, sphaerodactylids have a fossil record extending back to the Eocene.
