Cicer is a genus of the legume family, Fabaceae, subfamily Faboideae, and the only genus in the tribe Cicereae, comprising 45 accepted species native to the Middle East and Asia. Cicer arietinum, the chickpea, is the only domesticated member of the genus and its most widely known species.
