Climactichnites is an enigmatic Cambrian-age genus of trace fossil formed on or within sandy tidal flats around 510 million years ago. It has been interpreted many different ways in the past, but is now thought to record the trail of a slug-like organism that moved by crawling across onshore or near-shore surfaces, or by burrowing into the sediment.
