Cynodon

Cynodon is a genus of grasses, family Poaceae, comprising approximately 13 recognized species, commonly called Bermuda grass or dog own tooth grass, a name deriving from Ancient Greek words for dog and tooth. The genus is native to warm temperate and tropical regions of the Old World and has since been cultivated and naturalized across the New World and oceanic islands; plants spread through rhizomes and stolons that readily break and regrow, making the genus notably drought tolerant compared to most other lawn grasses but also difficult to remove once established. The type species, Cynodon dactylon, is the most widely cultivated member and is used extensively as a lawn grass in warm regions such as the United States Sunbelt, and on golf course greens and football and baseball fields.
