Glycyrrhiza is a genus of flowering plants, family Fabaceae, comprising about 20 accepted species, 17 of which appear on its own current species list, with a subcosmopolitan distribution across Asia, Australia, Europe and the Americas. The genus is best known for liquorice, called licorice in American English; its most prominent member, Glycyrrhiza glabra, is native to Eurasia and North Africa and is the source of most confectionery liquorice, and the plant is also used in traditional Chinese medicine and herbology.
