Harlaniella

Harlaniella is a genus of enigmatic extinct organisms of uncertain taxonomic position, known from the late Ediacaran into the early Cambrian, roughly 575 to 533 million years ago. The fossils are elongated, made up of small segments, and occasionally branch, reaching up to 100 millimeters long and 3 millimeters wide, and have been found in Ukraine's Studenitsa Formation, Newfoundland's Chapel Island Formation, Russia's Ust Pinega Formation and California's Wood Canyon Formation. Once interpreted as trace fossils, more recent study has argued instead that the fossils are internal casts of a body, possibly related to the palaeopascichnids or the vendotaenids.
