Hyalochlorella

Hyalochlorella is a genus of marine green alga in the family Oocystaceae, class Trebouxiophyceae, containing a single species, Hyalochlorella marina, also known under the name Dermocystidium sp. It lives as an epiphyte on marine seaweeds and has been recorded along the coasts of the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and near the Faroe Islands. Originally classified as a fungus, it was later linked instead to the green alga genus Chlorella, though it also shows similarities to ichthyosporean organisms such as Sphaeroforma tapetis, and its precise evolutionary position remains uncertain.
