Mongolitubulus

Mongolitubulus is a genus of small shelly fossils from the Lower to Middle Cambrian, found worldwide including on every continent, even Antarctica. It consists of slender, pointed, slightly curved conical spines up to 2 centimeters long, ornamented with short rhomboid processes spiraling around the surface in a regular mosaic pattern. One species, Mongolitubulus henrikseni, has been identified as spines from a bradoriid arthropod, but the identity of other species, including Mongolitubulus squamifer, remains unresolved, and the genus may ultimately prove to be a form taxon uniting spines from more than one kind of animal, possibly including trilobites or hallucigeniid lobopodians.
