Pseudacris

Pseudacris is a genus of frogs, family Hylidae, known as chorus frogs, with a species count considered controversial, 19 species by one taxonomic authority and 17 by another. The genus ranges across North America from southern Alaska to southern Baja California and from the Pacific to the Atlantic. The genus name derives from Greek for false locust, referencing the repeated rasping trill call of most species, similar to that of the insect; molecular research has found hybridization between species, which complicates the group taxonomy, and members range from very small, such as the little grass frog, to moderate-sized tree frogs occupying wetlands, woodlands and mountainous habitats.
