Secale

Secale is a genus of the grass tribe Triticeae, family Poaceae, subfamily Pooideae, closely related to barley, genus Hordeum, and wheat, genus Triticum, and already live in this atlas. The genus comprises the widely cultivated rye, Secale cereale, along with four to eleven wild species depending on the taxonomic criteria used, including Secale vavilovii, Secale sylvestre and Secale strictum. Wild Secale species range from Spain and Morocco to Pakistan, across the Balkans, Central Asia, the Mediterranean and the Caucasus, and serve as a genetic reservoir used for improving cultivated rye.
