Smilisca

Smilisca is a genus of tree frogs, family Hylidae, comprising nine recognized species, found in Mexico, southern Texas and Arizona, Central America and northwestern South America. The genus name derives from Ancient Greek referring to the pointed frontoparietal processes of its members, and the genus was recently expanded to include two species formerly placed in the genus Pternohyla. A well known member is the Mexican burrowing tree frog, also called the cross-banded tree frog, and another representative, the masked tree frog, is also known as the New Granada cross-banded tree frog.
