Vicia is a genus of flowering plants, family Fabaceae, subfamily Faboideae, tribe Fabeae, commonly known as vetches; Plants of the World Online lists 247 species, though taxonomy remains unresolved and older sources cite over 240 species. The genus is native to Eurasia, Africa and the Americas, with the type species being Vicia sativa. Members are legumes with cylindrical root nodules enabling nitrogen fixation, and several species, including common vetch and broad bean, are cultivated for forage and food.
