The true jellyfish: cnidarians in which the free-swimming, bell-shaped medusa stage dominates the life cycle, typically far larger and longer-lived than the small polyp stage that precedes it. Scyphozoa includes the large jellyfish most people picture when they hear the word, some with a bell over a meter across.
