Acariformes, also called Actinotrichida, is one of the two mite superorders within the arachnid group Acari, alongside Parasitiformes, and is the more diverse of the two. More than 32,000 species across 351 families have been formally described, though researchers estimate the true total could run from 440,000 to as many as 929,000 species once undescribed mites are counted. The group splits into two main lineages, Sarcoptiformes and Trombidiformes.
