Caryophyllales is a diverse order of flowering plants comprising 37 families, 749 genera and 11,620 species, about 6 percent of all eudicot species. Well-known members include cacti, carnations, beets, quinoa and spinach, and major families within the order include Cactaceae, Amaranthaceae, Polygonaceae and Caryophyllaceae, along with carnivorous-plant families such as Nepenthaceae and Droseraceae.
