Fagales is an order of flowering plants in the rosid group that includes some of the best-known trees in the world: beeches, chestnuts, oaks, walnuts, pecans, hickories, birches, alders, hazels, hornbeams, she-oaks and southern beeches. Under the APG III classification the order comprises seven families, Betulaceae, Casuarinaceae, Fagaceae, Juglandaceae, Myricaceae, Nothofagaceae and Ticodendraceae, and takes its name from the beech genus Fagus.
