Gentianales is an order of flowering plants in the asterid clade of eudicots, containing more than 20,000 species in about 1,200 genera across five families, with over 80 percent of species belonging to the family Rubiaceae. The order also includes Apocynaceae, Gentianaceae, Loganiaceae, and Gelsemiaceae, and its well-known members include coffee, frangipani, gardenia, gentian, oleander, and periwinkle. Many of its plants have a long history of medicinal use.
