Gunnerales is an order of flowering plants that, under the APG III and APG IV systems, is the first lineage to diverge from the core eudicots. It comprises two genera, Gunnera and Myrothamnus of the family Myrothamnaceae, whose very dissimilar visible forms once placed them in separate orders until DNA analysis revealed a close evolutionary relationship. Fossil pollen attributed to the order dates to the Aptian stage and has been recovered from Antarctica, Egypt, and Argentina, regions once joined as part of Gondwana.
