Magnoliales is an order of flowering plants in the magnoliid clade, comprising six families and including well-known members such as magnolias, tulip trees, custard apples, pawpaws, cherimoyas, ylang-ylang, soursop, and nutmeg. Its largest family, Annonaceae, contains more than 2,000 species of mostly tropical trees, shrubs, and lianas, while Magnoliaceae contains about 225 species including magnolias and tulip trees, and Myristicaceae contains several hundred species including nutmeg. The order fossil record extends back to the Aptian stage of the Cretaceous.
