Piperales is an order of flowering plants within the magnoliid clade, comprising about 4,170 recognized species across families including Aristolochiaceae, as expanded to include Asaraceae, Hydnoraceae, and Lactoridaceae, along with Piperaceae and Saururaceae. Notable members include black pepper, kava, numerous Peperomia species, pepper elder, birthwort, and wild ginger. Piperaceae and Saururaceae are mainly herbaceous plants with highly reduced, perianthless flowers.
