Ranunculales is an order of flowering plants belonging to the basal eudicots, an ancient lineage dating to the Early Cretaceous, and contains the buttercup family Ranunculaceae along with six other recognized families under the APG III system, including Berberidaceae and Papaveraceae. Well-known plants in the order include buttercups, clematis, columbines, delphiniums, poppies, hellebores and barberries.
