Gastrotricha is a phylum of microscopic aquatic worms found in marine sediment and freshwater habitats, commonly called hairybacks for the rows of cilia covering their underside. Most species are simultaneous hermaphrodites, and several freshwater species reproduce entirely by parthenogenesis, with no males ever observed.
