The rough-legged buzzard, called the rough-legged hawk in North America, is a medium to large bird of prey. It breeds in Arctic and subarctic regions of North America, Europe and Asia and migrates south for the winter. It was historically also called the rough-legged falcon in older works, including John James Audubon's The Birds of America.
