Threskiornithidae

Threskiornithidae is the family of ibises and spoonbills, large wading birds now placed in the order Pelecaniformes after reclassification from Ciconiiformes in 2010. It includes 35 extant species, plus one that became extinct in historical times, across 13 living genera, found in tropical and warm temperate regions worldwide near standing or slow-flowing fresh or brackish water, from northern Denmark to Tierra del Fuego. Members have long broad wings, elongated bodies and necks, and long legs, with ibises bearing decurved bills and spoonbills bearing straight, distinctively flattened bills, and range from 45 to 100 centimeters in length; genetic studies have shown spoonbills nested within the Old World ibises rather than forming a separate lineage.
