The Patagonian Steppe, also called the Patagonian Desert, is a large cold winter desert and grassland covering roughly 673,000 square kilometers of Argentina, the largest desert in the country and the eighth largest in the world by area. Its dry, wind-scoured plains straddle two classifications, appearing in surveys both as desert and xeric shrubland and as temperate grassland.
