Tufted duck

Birds

The tufted duck is a small diving duck found across northern Eurasia, with a population of nearly one million birds. It is partially migratory and is hunted as a game bird. Its scientific name combines an Ancient Greek word for an unidentified seabird mentioned by early writers with Latin words for soot and throat, describing its dark plumage.
