Campanula rotundifolia

Flowering Plants

Campanula rotundifolia, known as the harebell or Scottish bluebell, is a species of flowering plant in the bellflower family Campanulaceae. This herbaceous perennial grows throughout the north temperate regions of the Old World, or more broadly the northern hemisphere depending on interpretation, and in Scotland is often called simply bluebell. It is the floral emblem of Sweden, where it is known as the small bluebell, and produces violet-blue, bell-shaped flowers in late summer and autumn. They are predominantly photosynthetic or came from photosynthetic ancestors, meaning that they obtain their energy from sunlight by using the green pigment chlorophyll in their chloroplasts to produce sugars from carbon dioxide and water.
