Home›Fungi›Other FungiGroupOther FungiThis group gathers Fungi subcategory members that are genuine fungi but that this atlas's own sourced descriptions do not identify with one of the eight more specific fungus groups gathered separately above. It spans the stinkhorns, fungi named for a foul, carrion-like odor that attracts flies to disperse their spores and for a shape that in several species is strikingly phallic, tooth fungi such as the bleeding tooth fungus and lion's mane, named for spore-producing surfaces covered in small tooth- or spine-like projections rather than gills or pores, and jelly fungi such as wood ear and Tremella mesenterica, whose gelatinous, rubbery fruiting bodies swell dramatically after rain and shrink to a hard, inconspicuous husk in dry weather. Every member gathered here is a genuine fungus by the broad definition of the kingdom Fungi; the split above exists only to keep eight especially large or well-known groups browsable on their own rather than to draw a biological line excluding anything placed here.FactsBrowse BySourcesComments (0)Reader Challenges (0)FactsComparisonTaxonomic Rank OrderWell-attested5 1Reproductive ModeWell-attestedSpores 2Browse ByAll Other FungiOther Fungi10 entriesOther FungiFilter Results10 entriesCommon GroupAllOther Fungi (10)TaxonomyAllAgaricomycetes (7)Ascomycota (1)Basidiomycota (1)Sordariomycetes (1)HabitatAllTemperate Coniferous Forest (1)Temperate Forest (1)Conservation StatusAllLeast Concern (1)Not Evaluated (6)Everyday GroupAllOther Fungi (10)DietAllDetritivore or Scavenger (8)Parasitic (2)System (Realm)AllTerrestrial (9)Relationship to PeopleAllEaten or Drunk by People (3)Invasive or Introduced Species (1)Used in Traditional Medicine (2)Living or ExtinctAllYes (3)Where It LivesAllAustria (1)Belgium (6)Brazil (1)Denmark (6)Europe (1)France (1)Iran (1)Netherlands (1)North America (1)Norway (8)Poland (2)Portugal (4)Slovenia (1)Sweden (6)United Kingdom (1)United States (6)Show ResultsBrowseCompareSelect all 10Basket StinkhornFungi1 linkBleeding Tooth Fungus (Hydnellum peckii)Fungi2 linksDead Man's FingersFungi1 linkExidia pithyaFungi1 linkHericium erinaceusFungi1 linkOdontura rhaphidosporaFungi1 linkPhallus ImpudicusFungi1 linkStinkhornFungi1 linkTremella mesentericaFungi2 linksWood EarFungi1 linkSources1.
