Hoolock

Hoolock is a genus of gibbons in the family Hylobatidae, comprising three species native to eastern Bangladesh, Northeast India, Myanmar and southwestern China. As the second-largest living gibbons after the siamang, they measure 60 to 90 centimeters and weigh 6 to 9 kilograms, with males displaying black fur and white brows and females a grey-brown coat. The genus name comes from a language of Assam; Myanmar holds the most significant populations of all three species, and the western and Skywalker hoolock gibbons are assessed as endangered while the eastern hoolock gibbon is assessed as vulnerable.
