A phylum of single-celled protists that includes both photosynthetic species with chloroplasts and purely predatory or parasitic species with none, unified by a distinctive whip-like flagellum and a supporting protein strip beneath the cell membrane. Euglenozoa includes the trypanosome parasites responsible for African sleeping sickness and Chagas disease.
