Protista

A kingdom-level grouping, not a single natural lineage, for eukaryotic organisms that are neither animals, plants nor fungi: mostly single-celled forms including amoebas, algae and various flagellates. Protista is retained here as the traditional catch-all rank for these lineages, though modern classification increasingly treats many of its component groups (Chlorophyta, Euglenozoa, Ciliophora and others) as independent branches of the eukaryotic tree in their own right.
