One of the three domains of life: organisms whose cells carry a membrane-bound nucleus and internal organelles such as mitochondria. Eukarya contains every multicellular form of life, animals, plants and fungi, as well as a vast diversity of single-celled protists, and is the domain from which the kingdoms Animalia, Plantae, Fungi and Protista descend.
